DPA 2016 Day 1

On February 5th, (Friday), Ben Hill County headed to Rock Eagle. I was so nervous and excited at the same time. I call it, "nervited". We went to Chickfila' in Cordele to eat, and I got this really weird frosted lemonade. Don't you just love it how the Chickfila' employees always say my pleasure, and they always smile. Taco Bell needs to get like them.

We were nearing Rock Eagle, but we had lost sight of the van that we were following. We got a little bit lost. I didn't want to be rude, but I was freaking out!!! Campaigning started at 4:00 P.M., and it was already past four o'clock. As soon as we got to our cabin I carried my luggage into my room, and freshened up (the air conditioner wasn't really working, so I was sweating). I grabbed my poster, sharpies, and ran out the door to get to the canteen.

As soon as I got to the canteen, I saw all of the Junior Board Members. After I talked with them, I immediately started going up to strangers, and campaigning. I didn't think it would be that easy, but after a few minutes, I was getting the hang of it.

At supper, I sat with people that I hadn't even met. It was the weirdest thing ever. I was glad to had made friends with some of the Junior Board Candidates already. After supper I went to the Candidates' Assembly. I was super nervous about the campaign skit. After I did that, I would be so relieved. The evening assembly was so much fun! I loved the skit, but I was still flooded with butterflies because after the assembly, was the campaign skit.

I went with my county to the Junior Candidate Assembly. I could have exploded, and I fought to keep my cool. I was going after Sara, and a few other people. I wish that I could have just gone first, but seeing other people mess up made me a little bit less nervous (that is probably bad). I handed them my CD, and put my poster in front of the podium. I walked onto the small stage and held the microphone. All of a sudden, the song played, and I looked at the audience. It was pretty intimidating. I started out, and everything went well. On the second verse I slipped up, but I just had to keep on going. The board members held up a sign that said "15" right when I had finished. I couldn't tell how many people clapped because I was so relieved. I was finally done.

I found my county, and we headed back to cabin 42.

to be continued.....
